Inside Bale, silence after tourists have left!

On a scenic road from Pula to Rovinj you will find a medieval town called Bale in Croatian language and Valle in Italian. The town has preserved its middle age ambience of thick set houses grouped around a little square dominated by the so called Soardo-Bembo Palace.

Another Venetian lion above the town gate testifes centuries of the Venetian influence.

Shady, narrow streets and secret passageways.

Step into the past.

Stone, stone, everything is here always made of stone.

From the bell tower you will enjoy a magnificent view of Balle which stands 106 meters above the sea level.

Big church, small town.

Traditional water well which used to decorate many courtyards. Water however has always been more precious than excellent local wine.

3 medieval scourges ; wars, plague, malaria epidemics.

Bale is the best kept secret for true jazz lovers.

This passageway has been walked for many centuries ; from ancient Roman soldiers, Casanova to  jazz musicians, hippies and tourists.

Don`t miss this unusual tiny chappel when you drop in Bale.

Medieval wall paintings decorate some little chappels in hilltop towns scattered around. Travelling painters used to copy faces of the few surviving locals  and insert them into Biblical characters.

My husband says that Marilyn Monroe`s spirit wanders around these streets in Bale. Or is it maybe just another of those "tell it to the marines" that he tells while guiding his tours.
